About

Activities:-

Hartington is a popular base for exploring the Peak District National Park, the High Peak and the Derbyshire Dales, with their many attractions.
Visit Stately Homes such as Chatsworth House or Haddon Hall, or, have a wild day out at Alton Towers Theme Park.
The walking and cycle routes of the Manifold Valley and the Tissington trails are two minutes drive away and offer easy ‘going’ with gentle gradients among spectacular scenery. There are many more walking and cycle routes for the more adventurous!
If you would like to go shopping, the market towns of Ashbourne, Bakewell, Buxton and Leek are all within easy reach and offer their own unique histories and character.
If none of those activities appeal, we are only 130 miles from a fine sandy beach!

Outdoor enthusiasts welcome:-

Cycles
can be locked away under cover.

Motorcyclists
welcome but regret covered parking is not available.

Walkers
:- Take your boots off! (By order of the ‘Housekeeper’).

Outdoor ‘gear’
can be dried overnight. (Boots may take longer).

Laundry facilities
may be made available at the housekeeper’s discretion.

Disabled Facilities:-
There is level access from the road to our front door where a single step may be negotiated via a movable ramp if necessary. The whole of our ground floor is wheelchair accessible including WC facilities. After this I am afraid we struggle.
Due to the Listed status of the building and lack of space to extend or adapt to make provision, we regret that none of our bedrooms are on the ground floor.

On Arrival:
Come in!

Pets/Allergies
Steve, your host, is allergic to most furry things and we don’t have any pets. In view of this, and to provide a safe haven for other sufferers, we can not accept pets.

Dust Allergies:-
We have the usual carpets and soft furnishings and are keen on natural ventilation, so some amount of dust is unavoidable. However, we have a beast of a ‘Kirby’ vacuum cleaner, probably the best device in the world for minimising house dust in carpets mattresses and pillows.

Smoking
Placing tobacco or similar related products in your mouth and setting fire to them is not permitted on these premises.

Food/ Vegetarians/Omnivores/Special Diets
Helen has an extensive background in catering and the production of good wholesome food is her passion.
Steve is Vegetarian and guests of a similar persuasion can be assured that they will not be disappointed.
Special diets can be catered for, please discuss your personal requirements with us in good time.
Bank House Breakfast has become something of an institution. Don’t be intimidated. Have just as much or as little as you like. If you have too little the fault is yours! If you have too much, skip lunch and dinner and have a smaller breakfast tomorrow!
Ah, but it’s not just about quantity is it? It’s the quality and preparation of the ingredients which will give you the best start to enjoy your day.
The traditional ‘fry up’ is, of course popular: fresh ingredients cooked to order, straight to your plate, usually accompanied with a Staffordshire Oatcake. The ‘fry up’ is produced in the healthiest way, by grilling the main constituents to minimise fats. Eggs are fried to perfection in vegetable oil. You can, of course, request your eggs in any other style of your choice.

Fresh Produce
Fresh food is obtained from our excellent local producers/suppliers whenever possible, or at least from a reputable source.
Free Range Eggs are obtained from local friends and family
Beef, lamb and pork
are obtained from local farms, dressed by a local butcher and delivered to our door half a beast at a time.
Vegetables.
We have a relatively short growing season in North Derbyshire, but when in season, veggies are sourced from friends and from our own garden. At other times much of our vegetable supply comes from Lincolnshire, brought over personally by Chick and Jenny.
Once regular guests many years ago and now valued family friends.
Chick likes his food plain and he wants to know where it’s from and who cooked it. He probably knows who planted it, who picked it, when, and he’ll know when the tractor is due for a service!
(We’ve tried to tell Chick about the myriad of kaleidoscopic flavours and sensations obtainable from the most delicate of oriental oils and spices. But ‘ee not impressed!)
